Amanda St. John - Made Myself A Name (Arvo Party Mix) Single Review
Amanda St. John is a soul singer from Northern Ireland. She released her debut album "Grow" back in 2016. Since then Amanda has had her music played on BBC and RTE, been reviewed in Hot Press Magazine and the Irish Times and even had a song used for an advert during the Rio Olympics. Her music has also taken her to perform privately for the US president.
Amanda has also worked with big names such as Brian Kennedy, Eddi Reader, Mary Coughlan and Ciaran Gribben. In May 2018, Amanda became the first ever independent Irish artist to record at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. A studio that boasts previous artists as Aretha Franklin and Etta James. "The Muscle Shoals Sessions" album will be released on May 8th of this year.
Yesterday, Amanda released her new single "Made Myself A Name (Arvo Party Remix)". Amanda says "I wanted a quirkier, more 70's Tom Waits vibe on this one and thought a remix might be a good option to make it stand stronger as a single. I'm a big fan of collaborating and had wanted to work with Arvo Party for a while so thought it would be a good opportunity to see what he could bring to this track. I totally love what he's done with it, he's brought the song to a whole new level".
The track itself is joyous and soul enriching. Amanda has very powerful vocals which absolutely shine on the single. The song wouldn't be at all out of place on the soundtrack for HBO's The Wire thanks to that very deliberate Tom Waits vibe.
