Adam Grant - My World Album Review

Image
Adam Grant is a singer songwriter from Co. Down. His style is indie, folk punk which he picked up from listening to Blink 182, Green Day, Oasis, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen whilst he was growing up in the 90's. Between 2006-2014, Adam was the front man for some local punk and rock bands which produced 3 EP's and several live gigs in prestigious venues such as Mandela Hall, The Limelight and Nottingham Rock City. He went solo in 2015 and released his first solo EP "The Fight" in 2016. earlier this year, Adam made it to the final of Bangor's Battle Of The Bands. In April he released his debut album "My World" which was recorded in Belfast and Lisburn. The album opens with the infectious "My Crowd". This track is incredibly catchy and has a very Lemonheads feel to it. Definitely a great way to kick off the album. "Closed Door" is a bit more of a chilled out and mellow love song. Ethan Hanna - Perfect Single Review

Image
Ethan Hanna is a singer songwriter from Lisburn, Northern Ireland who will release his debut single "Perfect" this Friday, July 20th. The single is taken from the forthcoming album "Welcome To The Batlands" which Hanna has been working on for several years and has recorded it in Millbank Studios in Lisburn. The album will be released later this year through the Tin Man Heart record label. Ethan Hanna has been a regular performer around Belfast and is finally able to satiate the thirst for recorded music from the many followers he has garnered. Ethan's songs are heavily basted in Americana but deeply rooted in Northern Ireland. He sings about love, loss, family and his childhood in Northern Ireland. The single "Perfect" is moody, gravelly and very Springsteenesque. The guitar really drives the track home and is the (pardon the pun) perfect accompaniment to Ethan's fantastic voice. His voice has a sound that I would imagine is how Tom

An Introduction To Colleen Coughlan

Image
Colleen Coughlan is a talented singer songwriter from Wexford. Colleen has been writing songs for years now, plays guitar and keyboard, released an album in 2017, recently opened for Bagatelle and has featured on a track by hip hop artist Evolution. One of her tracks already has over 30,000 plays on Spotify which she also co-produced . All of this is made even more incredible by the fact that Colleen is still only 17 years old. Whilst wanting to carve out her own sound, it can't be a bad thing to be compared to Lana Del Rey and Adele. The future is definitely bright for this girl. Evolution ft. The Greatest Irish Hip Hop Song?

Anybody who knows me is aware that I'm a big fan of Irish hip hop and over the years I've heard some great songs (and such utter shite). With quality tunes out there from the likes of This Side Up, Rusangano Family, Ri-Ra, Class A'Z and the plethora of new talent coming through there are plenty of tracks to pick from. However, I still can't think of an Irish hip hop track that I enjoy more than this. Absolute top class stuff from Rapthor, Collie, Funzo, Siyo and Ricki Rawness. Anybody who thinks there is better out there then feel free to comment and leave a link.

Strings And Things....The Next Trad Kings?

Image
Strings And Things are a four piece trad folk band from Thurles, Co. Tipperary. The group is made up of James O'Meara-Ryan, Eoin Shelly, Sean Mongey and Eoin Salmon. In 2015 they won the Tipperary Battle Of The Bands and then released their debut album "Turbulence" two years later in 2017. Since then they have been played on countless radio stations in Ireland and also across Europe. The boys are working on their second album "The Unsolicited Dance" which they will write and produce themselves. Right now though, Strings And Things are on a 3 month tour in Orlando, Florida. They are playing up a storm by all accounts. Being called "the new Dubliners" is both an amazing compliment but also a hinderance as they want to be established as their own act and be recognised for who they are, also they aren't even from Dublin! Check out "The Safe Way Out" which is one of their original songs from their debut album: And here they ar

Zola Daze - Sun Bleached Single Review

Image
Zola Daze is the mystical culmination of Andrew Martin's diverse musical journey from playing drums as a kid, playing in a metal band, playing alongside monks, playing in a Glam rock band and then becoming the lead singer of another band. All of these experiences have sculpted Zola Daze's interesting and captivating sound. The young Cork man has recently recorded his self titled debut EP at Orphan Studios in Dublin. What makes this EP extra impressive is the fact that Andrew played every single instrument himself which showcases just how musically talented he is. With influences such as Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Jeff Buckley, Van Morrison, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and The Beatles, you can definitely expect the EP to have many eclectic sounds and intriguing depth. The first single to be released by Zola Daze is "Sun Bleached". The song itself transcends genres beautifully. The underlying back beat is gloriously reassuring, the vocals are sublime and the gui
