Adam Grant - My World Album Review

Adam Grant is a singer songwriter from Co. Down. His style is indie, folk punk which he picked up from listening to Blink 182, Green Day, Oasis, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen whilst he was growing up in the 90's. Between 2006-2014, Adam was the front man for some local punk and rock bands which produced 3 EP's and several live gigs in prestigious venues such as Mandela Hall, The Limelight and Nottingham Rock City. He went solo in 2015 and released his first solo EP "The Fight" in 2016. earlier this year, Adam made it to the final of Bangor's Battle Of The Bands. In April he released his debut album "My World" which was recorded in Belfast and Lisburn.

The album opens with the infectious "My Crowd". This track is incredibly catchy and has a very Lemonheads feel to it. Definitely a great way to kick off the album.
"Closed Door" is a bit more of a chilled out and mellow love song.
"What Ifs And Buts" is punk to it's core. The drumming on the song is the real driving force. Add to this Adam's brilliant vocals and you've got an awesome song. Possibly the best on the album.
"This Feeling" makes you just nod your head in appreciation for a full 3 minutes and 15 seconds. You can try stop yourself but it's just impossible.
The following track "Avalanche" is the complete opposite to the previous song as it's a heartbreaking tale of lost love. If you nod your head in appreciation throughout this then you are clearly a monster.
"My World" continues on the obvious obsession Adam has with doors as they're all over this song, there is a song called Closed Door and his backing band are called The Open Doors. Maybe he needs to get a "handle" on this fetish!
"Goodbye" begins with what would be a brilliant call and response at a live show. Unlike "Avalanche", this is Adam accepting the end of a relationship and realises it wasn't as good as he previously thought.
"The Fight" is another love song about not giving up and fighting for love regardless.
The penultimate track "Punk Girl" is a brilliant autobiographical offering about how Adam got into punk music. It's kind of like a mixture of Ryan Adams and Adam Green (too many Adam's?).
The album comes to a finish with "Your Love" which is an ode to his parents and how he wishes to see them one more time.

"My World" is a brilliant debut album. It flows through different emotions effortlessly and seamlessly. "My Crowd" and "What Ifs And Buts" would be the 2 standout tracks for me. Adam Grant will be playing 5 nights at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August so check that out if you're in the area.
