Image
Sea High (Craig Hoey) is a multi instrumentalist rapper, producer and spoken word artist from Drogheda, Co. Louth. He is a member of the musical collective known as Off-Key Collective who self produce all of their own music. Sea High began as an acoustic folk performer before finding his way to hip hop. Sea High has been using this quarantine as a way to focus on his music. Having already released one single this week, he now offers up his second. "Isolation" features Dublin folk singer Dubh Lee and was written about adjusting to life during the lockdown.  "Isolation" is a reflective piece of music driven by a beautiful piano track. Sea High's blend of rap and spoken word works perfectly with the music to create an image for the listener. His lyrics are very introspective and will resonate with many of us who have felt the same way. The addition of the vocals from Dubh Lee helps to create a whole new layer of evocativeness. With the state of the w...

Image
C.H.O.L.O. are a 6 piece group based in Barcelona. They play a unique style of music blending cumbia (latin music) with hip hop, reggae and rock. The group is made up of 5 Peruvians and a guy from Derry. They are heavily influenced by Afro-Latin roots, Andean mysticism and Amazonian psychedelia. Having toured across Spain, France, Switzerland and Italy, the band are hoping to make it to Ireland as soon as possible. Ahead of the release of their debut EP on April 25th, C.H.O.L.O. offer up their new single "No Podrán". The name translates as "They Won't Do It" and is a song about resistance, resisting authority and oppression. The video was recorded in Barcelona and features footage from riots and protests from around the world. The song is like nothing you have heard before. It's fresh and energetic. It's got a killer electric guitar sound mixed with hip hop and reggae. As the song is completely in Spanish, I have no idea what they're saying ...

Jordan Walker is a singer songwriter from Northern Ireland but currently residing in England. This year Jordan plans on releasing more music and a headline show in London. This Tuesday April 7th, Jordan will release his new single "Silence, Our Favourite Song". The song is  a very solemn piano based track. Jordan's vocals are gentle and soothing on this truly breathtaking tune.

Indian Queens - God Is A Woman Album Review

Image
Indian Queens are a London/Irish trio consisting of sisters Kat and Jen O'Neill and drummer Matthew Dudan-Bick. They have been been getting people talking and growing their fanbase for the last number of years with a string of single releases and live shows. Now they have just released their debut album "God Is A Woman". "Bubblewrap" sets the tone brilliantly with its new wave roots. The song grows and grows to create a vast depth of sound. "Pretty Little Thing" brings more bass to the heady vibe of the band. The vocals are dreamlike and airy. The title track "God Is A Woman" makes great use of the drum machine which compliments the beautiful vocals. The song is also very upbeat an optimistic whilst also being somewhat minimalistic. "Some Kind Of Blue" is reminiscent of Portishead especially with the "Machine Gun" style drum beat. The vocals are again simply captivating and you find yourself wanting 'to go l...

Kevin Casey - The Show Goes On / Mae Double A Side Single Review

Image
Kevin Casey is a singer songwriter from Dublin. He has been on the scene for a long time now and has toured extensively around Ireland whilst also performing shows in America, Germany and UK. Kevin is known for his penchant to create rock songs and pop songs in equal measure. Today he releases his double A side single "The Show Goes On" and "Mae". Kevin was inspired to write these songs after the death of both of his grandmothers within 24 hours of each other back in 2017. He deliberately recorded these songs in a stripped back fashion. "The Show Goes On" is a beautiful piece of music. Kevin's voice is brimming with emotion for obvious reasons and it blends perfectly with the starkness of the stripped back guitar.  "Mae" is a piano driven track with an equal amount of emotion. This song is slightly more upbeat and pop based than "The Show Goes On". The song builds and builds before hitting it's big crescendo. Once...

Cian Sweeney is the multi instrumentalist from Cork who is the man behind 1000 Beasts. He produces a track and then features a different vocalist on each one. In September 2019, he released his first single "Fall So Easy", a song that featured Elkin. Now he releases his second single from his upcoming debut "1000 Beasts" double EP. This time he enlists the vocal talents of Alex Tierney on "5 Points". "5 Points" was produced by Cian on a recent tour with another artist to Nashville. On a rare day off, he sat on the porch of his AirBnB in the 5 Points district into the early hours of the morning and came up with the idea for the song. He says " there's the sound of the siren of an ambulance playing throughout large sections of the track, this is because, despite having headphones on, I could hear an ambulance pass while I was producing the track, the sound suited, so I decided to record the siren on my iPhone and put it into the t...
