Cloakroom Q. - Going For A Walk And I'm Not Coming Back EP Review

Cloakroom Q. are an art rock/neo psychedelic 5 piece from Northern Ireland. They are based in Belfast but are from Newry and surrounding areas originally. Having only formed in 2016, they ended up representing Newry at the Irish Youth Music Awards in Croke Park in 2017. After this they released 2 digital singles and spent a lot of time gigging and growing their fanbase.

The opening song on the EP "South Of Sane" immediately let's you know that this band aren't your typical run of the mill rock group. The almost spoken word vocals and the excitement of the musical beauty that looms over it. There is definitely a Conor Oberst or "Endless Art" by A House style to the track.
"d0nkroom" is the total opposite as it starts out with a banging beat and is 39 seconds of pure fun.
"People With Energy" has a killer bass intertwined with cracking drums and punk vocals. A quality rock song with so much going on throughout. The musical layers and depth to this song are truly astounding.
The penultimate track "Feeding The Stranger" is another in your face assault which then mellows out into a grungy tale of alcohol, coughing blood and vomiting. Oddly it makes for a compelling story.
The soothing yet heavy hitting "Unearth" brings the EP to a close. The song begins as a nice gentle soft pillow but then Cloakroom Q. take that pillow, hold it over your face and scream aggressively at you. Weirdly though, you enjoy it and have to hide the boner it's given you. Quality song.

"I'm Going For A Walk And I'm Not Coming Back" is a seriously impressive EP. Cloakroom Q. have created an EP with 5 different songs all showcasing different sounds which is a testament to the ability these lads have. Their experimental sound is a joy to listen to and it will be interesting to hear where that journey takes them.
The EP will be released in the coming weeks. In the meantime, check them out on Facebook: Cloakroom Q.
